RWCA Principal - April FortinGreetings!! Returning and New RWCA Students and Parents,

I want to officially welcome all of you to the 2011-2012 School Year! Summer has come and gone and now it is time to continue with the excellent traditions of RiverWalk Christian Academy, as well as to introduce exciting new programs and personnel. RWCA, fresh off of a banner year of student performance, has been busy preparing for another yet amazing year. Over the summer break the school has been cleaned, the school kitchen has been updated, and a brand new Reading Program "Read For Real" program was brought into the school. Our dedicated staff has been working hard to ensure a successful start of school on Monday, August 15, 2011. The elementary and middle school years are critical times of development for students and families alike, and I look forward to working with all of you to make this year successful. I am a lifelong educator who brings a firm commitment to students and families as well as a love of learning and problem solving.

STAFF CHANGES:
- Mrs. Vittitow former 4th grade teacher moved to 1st grade.
- Mrs. Piett is our new 4th grade teacher, and she comes with teaching experience and a commitment to helping our children.
- Mrs. Nathan our 7th/8th grade teacher decided that she would stay and help continue to educate our children.

ARRIVAL TIMES:
Our school day begins at 8:00AM every day. Please be sure to have your child/children here on time. Students who are consistently tardy are at a clear disadvantage and usually arrive feeling frantic and unprepared. All students who arrive after 8:10am must sign in at the office with a parent. If your child is sick please call the office and notify us. If you drop your child off by car please remember to make sure that children are not walking around as well as make sure that you have a clear right of way. Please see the handbook for more information on this.

SCHOOL LUNCHES:
School breakfast and lunch will be served starting the first day of school. Menus, prepayments, and other pertinent lunch information can be found in the front office. More information will be sent home on the first day of school. Payments can be made in the office.

AFTER SCHOOL CARE PROGRAM:
We are happy to continue our after school care. The after school program begins the first day of school and will continue to service grades K5-8, five days a week. The program has undergone a few changes of which you will be informed about in the days to come. Further information regarding this program can be found in the front office.

INSTRUCTIONAL PROGRAMS:
General: Our programs each year are exciting and structured to ensure that all our childern continue to receive a well-rounded and challenging education. Our standards and expectations remain high! As always, our number one goal is providing our students with a quality educational experience in a safe, caring and nurturing environment. All our instructors are fully credentialed with CGACS while professional development and collaborative opportunities are built into our yearly schedule.

Planners:
Please ask your child for this planner daily. It is one primary way for us to maintain the lines of communication between school and home. Information regarding programs, events, instructional changes, etc. will be found in the planner, and parents are asked to sign the planners daily. The planner must be brought to school daily.

SCHOOL INVOLVEMENT:
It is so important that teachers and parents work together in making a child’s school year a happy and successful one. It is hoped that you will be able to spend some time during the school year helping in the classroom or at home. Please discuss with your child’s teacher ways to help your child succeed. Home/School partnership is the reason RWCA continues to excel academically.

TEACHERS/CLASSES:
We have two combination classes this year. Combination classes are designed due to enrollment fluctuations. All our instructors are highly qualified and prepared to teach both standard and combination classes. If you should have questions please check in with your child’s teacher regarding their program.

We look forward to seeing all of you this school year. If you have any questions related to school policy and procedures, schedules, etc., please feel free to call the main office at 407-321-2723. Enjoy the remainder of the summer!

Sincerely,
